Locks of Love it’s better than just throwing it out

A charity that provides wigs to financially disadvantaged children suffering from medical hair loss, Daniel Melando’s haircut was well worth the wait for “Locks of Love”.

A sophomore year (Daniel Melando) at Bayonne High School, hadn’t gotten his hair cut in four years. But yesterday, the 16 year old sat down in a chair at Showcase Hair Design on Broadway in Bayonne and heard an unfamiliar sound - “snip, snip, snip”.

His two (2) 8-inch ponytails were now history and donated for a great cause. It’s better than just throwing it out. His mother, Cathy Melando said “Daniel’s action is especially significant because his grandmother died of complications from breast cancer in 2002. I’m really proud of him. It kind of touched us personally”.

Veronique Pinto started sending her clients’ hair to Locks of Love after reading about a burn victim who benefited from a Locks of Love wig. Veronique Pinto, who has worked at Showcase for about four years. Veronique said “When I saw it, it just moved me. It’s a good cause and it’s better than throwing the hair away. We get a lot of people donating. Last year showcase sent about 20 ponytails to the charity and has already sent more than 10 since January”.

Hair for sick children “Locks of Love”

Almost 60 people got their hair cut at Phoenix Children’s Hospital last Monday (June 30, 2008). The volunteers are donated their hair to an organization and its called “Locks of Love”.

Those hair will be put to good use, and make wigs for children’s who have some type of medical hair loss, Allison Bell said.

Getting her first hair cute in over 9-10 years, Jean Gonzales donated two feet of hair. Her family would be shocked when she got home. Because no one knew she was cutting hair today. She came with kind of long hair and when shes going home with short hair. Alexander weighed in on his 4-year-old sister’s haircut. The organization name “Locks of Love” is a wonderful cause said by Amber Mosely, a stylist for Salon Estique, which cut the hair.

Mosely offer free hair cuts for Locks of Love at the salon. He said “It is nice to actually come here and see the patients and the people who are going to wear these wigs”.
