Christal Mercier, founder of Hair Dreams by Christal is on a mission to make hair dreams come true.
Hair Dreams by Christal, a 501(c)(3) organization in St, to provide a free replacement systems (cranial prosthesis) for individuals who lose their hair due to hair loss cancer, alopecia, lupus, burns, male/female baldness pattern, medication side effects and traumatic experiences.
Christal Mercier, a 30 year professional of the hair car industry, her aim to increase self-esteem and self-confidence in individuals who suffer long term or medical related hair loss.
Hair Dreams launched since 2008, a non-profit in response to the devastating sudden impact hair loss on her sisters had on the life and career.
Her sister, a former Ebony Fashion Fair Model and was one of the first black females to model jeans for Jordache, was featured acrosee New York Billboards. In the mid of 1990s, her sister began to experience severely thinning hair and in 2004, total hair loss, following about with breast cancer.
Mercier said “I saw how my sister started out when she didn’t have hair, it was devastating for her but her whole outlook changed once I gave her the hair replacement system.”
The average hair replacement system can range from $1,600 - $3,600 and can last from 9 months to 2 years but will be free to eligible recipients.
The non-profits board of directors reviews each request based on established guidelines.
The application of the prosthesis system takes from 2 to 3 hours to apply. Applications must be accompanied by doctor’s statement for validation in a medical cause of hair loss.
Mercier hopes to have a similar impact which will help and provide a free cranial prosthesis to qualifying clients.
Mercier has funded the hair replacement systems from resources from her salon, but with outside funding. She hope anyone could help from all nationalities both male and female.
