Genetic test helps predict hair loss of the likelihood of men or women losing their hair in the future. But we don’t want to know the truth sometimes. You can’t handle the truth said David McKenna, hair restoration surgeon at the National Hair Centers in Phoenix. Knowing in 10 to 20 years could go bald, turn your hair gray before it falls out. There are effective treatments available to prevent or protect hair loss, said McKenna.
Jay Zimmerman, 18 years old and entering his freshman year at ASU. He took the test, cherishes is black hair, thick. His mother work in the Hair Restoration Industry. Zimmerman said “People know me for my hair. I take 30 minutes to do it up every day”.
The Genetic test is cost about $100. David McKenna said, for the test, collects a swab of saliva and send it in a kit to a testing lab. Jay has tested positive for “G variant”, which means at least 60% chance he’ll go bald. Jay receives the results within two weeks. McKenna says Jay chances are much higher and adding the mix of his family history of baldness.
McKenna said that they have ways to help him not go bald. Jay’s glad he took the test but he disappointed at the results. Jay says plan things around it and try to prevent it as much as you can. He’s trying with laser treatments in the hopes in his genetic destiny.
