Steve Jones of Cavalier Hair Clinic, he operated his own business for 40 years and knows how to make something out of nothing. Jones, 59 year old, more than 30 years has been located in Godfrey. Alice Stone, an employee of Cavalier Hair Clinic said “He has clients that have been coming to him since they were babies.”

Steve Jones graduated from college in 1968, then started working for himself at the barbershop in the Mineral Springs Mall. Jones is always had good hand-eye coordination. His grandfather suggested that “He become a stylist someday, then he pursued it”. Soon after in the Mineral Springs Mall, he was drafted into the Army by serving his country with his passion.

Jones said “I was supposed in Vietnam but his order were change and he ended up being shipped to Germany after waiting in 6 days in California”. He did hair also on the side and quite well. He ended up in the officers club cutting hair. No one else of there knew how to cut hair for African Americans during the desegregation of the army.

Jones opend up a Cavalier Concepts after returning his military service, he went back to hair full time. Over the years, he become a successful businessman, he has perfected his techniques, he has 48 trophies for his abilities with cutting and styling hair. He received a good reputation in his Hair Clinic because he has won an awards in Statewide Competitions including three awards in Illinois, two in Missouri, and one each in Iowa and Indiana.

Awards he won in the late 1970’s:
* 1st place in men’s freestyle
* 3rd place in “sculpture cute” in a nationwide competition

The competition have changed over the years. Years ago, the have used to judge only hair and now can also consider in makeup, clothing and jewelry style. It is hard time for younger stylists who focus on hair.

Jones focuses more on his work with hair loss. He specializes in hair transplants, grafts and prevention of hair loss. Jones has also spent over 25 years as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society.
