Addison Copeland burned her head when she was a nine months old. Copeland’s returned to Ohio after the completion of hair restoration procedures of a local 6 year old girl in South Miami Hospital, Florida East Liverpool.

Addison Copeland, 6 year old from Ohio. When she was nine months old, she toddled into her kitchen and pulled a full of hot oil down on herself, about 43% of her body.

Kenneth Duncan, Copeland’s brother found her and he was 16 year old at that time. Copeland spent six months in the hospital after the accident. She wore a special pressurized suit for two years after. The doctors and the hospital didn’t issued a charged for her but to help heal her scars.

The right half of Copeland’s scalp was burned and her hair didn’t start regrow. At that point, Copeland’s mother, Bobbi Jo Moman, shaved her head to look like Copeland. Moman said “I figured if she was going to get stared at, so was I”.

Children With Hair Loss organization in Detroit, Mich., a members made a custom wig for Copeland for hair restoration. The wig allowed her natural hair to covered the scarred right side of her head. The organization provides free wigs for children up to 21 year old who have been in similar situations.

The photo above “after” shows several bald on the left area on Copeland’s scalp, in that sections have started to grow hair back. The South Miami Hospital did not charge Copeland’s family for her hospital stay and Dr. Jeffrey Epstein performed all seven procedures for free.

Dr. Epstein inserted a tissue expanders beneath Copeland’s scalp, which Moman scalp has stretch when gradually filled with saline solution. Then, Epstein pulled the healthy scalp over to cover the scarred area.

Moman said “I am so thankful for everyone who’s even pickup up the paper to read the story. In a town where you don’t often hear good things, everyone pulled together to help”. Copeland’s mother hopes that one day, her family can return the favor by helping someone else. Moman said I learned that life is very precious and you never know what’s going to happen from one moment to the next.
