Miranda Gordon plans to donate her hair to Locks of Love, an organization that uses human hair to make wigs for children who are suffering hair loss medical condition.

Miranda Gordon had plenty of hair and she decided to donate it to charity for worthy cause. After four years without having haircut.

Gordon, 10 year old from Houghton, she had 10 inches hair long had been donated at Xpressions in Handcock Friday afternoon. She said “I was hearing about it, and I wanted to try it.”

Becky Gordon, her mother said Miranda was also motivated by her late grandfather Andy, who died of cancer.

Becky said “I’m very, very proud. That’s the kind of person she is though.., she’s hoping that the kids will be happy by having more hair.

When her hair grows out, Gordon said she might try it again.

In the meantime, there’s another upside.

“I told her she’s going to run even faster when she plays sports,” Becky Gordon said. “Less drag.”

Alyssa Castro has been donated her 10 inches hair to Locks of Love or Charity. Alyssa, a sophomore at the Alverno High School private school in Sierra Madre, took it in stride. After spent years growing her hair long, it was for a good cause.

She said “Hair grows back, I feel really great.”

Castro and 63 student Alverno students donated to locks of their hair to Locks of Love last week. Locks of Love, the non-profit organization that provides hairpieces into wigs for children suffering hair loss, primarily those undergoing cancer treatment.

Alverno’s Head of School Ann Gillick said students have tended to support the program - 50 students donated about 400 inches of their hair when it was held there in 2007. Gillick herself chopped off 11 inches of her hair that year.

“It took a while to get it back,” she said.

Last week, the 64 students donated more than 600 inches of hair to Locks of Love.

Alverno’s Pastor Chris McGuiness, who organized the event, said the school has lost a student and a faculty member to cancer, and he himself is a cancer survivor.

“What other way is there to support someone than by giving a part of yourself?” he said of the program.

Stacy Cunningham,a stylist at Diva Style in Altadena, donated her time cutting and styling for the event. For some of the girls who donated their locks, it was an emotional experience - parting with their long hair was difficult, she said.

Elisa Hernandez, 18, sat in the chair and, after conferring with Cunningham, decided to have 8 inches taken off, leaving her hair just above her shoulders. She said donated it to Locks of Love in honor of her mother, who is undergoing chemotherapy for lung cancer.

Hernandez said “I didn’t tell her I was going to do this, but I don’t think she will be mad.”

A Warner Robins High and Northside High has came together to donate on the Locks of Love event. Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces for children under 18 year old who suffer hair loss condition.

Randi Collier says “They walk out knowing that they made a difference. Students get so much from the experience.”

Bianca Rafflos, a first time who donate to hair loss and says that she’s proud to donate and be part of it. She says “I’m really excited because if I was in their position, I would want somebody to do the same for me.”

Locks of Love says, the most of donated hair is used to help children with a hair loss condition - Alopecia Areata which cause falling of hair.

Gracey Evans and April Evans arrived at school, they had a new look.

The girls are students from Franklin Regional School District had 20 and 17 inches less of hair. The two girls had their first haircuts at Emerald Salon and Day Spa in New Kensington.

The hair was donated to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization provides hairpieces to help children suffering from hair loss medication condition.

Gracey 12 year old, said “I’ve been wanting to for a year.”

April 10 year old, said they want to help other by donating the hair. People were surprised to see them arrived at school Monday with their new look.

Gracey was happy for her new look.

A salon has donated more than 400 inches hair to Locks of Love. The Valenti Salon on Beechmonth Avenue in Anderson Township with more than a dozen customers donated their hair.

Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantage children who are suffering from medical hair loss.

It is the first time the salon to have an event a benefit for the Locks of Love.

Locks of Love Day at Country Hair Creation from 9a.m to 1.pm April 4. Country Hair Creation, 111 W. Main St., Woodville, and New Directions Hair Studio/Spa, 333 Rice St., Elmore.

The requirement for donating the hair must be at 10 inches in length or preferably 12 inches and must be free of bleach, colored and permed hair is acceptable. It is free to be cut and styled your hair for free and free to donate.

Johanna Perez donates hair to Organization

Johanna Perez, 9 year old, gave several inches of her hair to Locks of Love in Florida. She wanted to do it for kids that don’t have much.

Melissa, mother of Johanna accompanied her to visit stylist Erica Radenbaugh at Grass Roots for her haircut. Erica said “I’ve done several Locks of Love. I think it’s amazing.”

Erica Radenbaugh, stylist, has been at the salon in Grass Roots for two years. She said “The donor’s hair has to be at least 10 inches long.”

Locks of Love, a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces for children under 18 who suffering long term medical hair loss from any diagnosis in United States and Canada. The organization create unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics.

The Locks of Love Mission statement: “Our mission is to return a sense of self confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children.”

Haleigh Law, 12 year old Ramona girl donates hair to Locks of Love, a public nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis in the United States and Canada.

The organization will help to children who suffer hair loss by using the donated ponytails to provide the high quality hair prosthetics to the children. Locks of Love mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children with hair loss.

Haleigh Law, a seventh grader at Olive Pierce. Vickie Law, her mother and she had a bet would not cut their hair until it was long enough for Locks of Love, which they planned on Valentine’s 2009.

Haleigh said “I wanted to see what my mom’s hair looks like long. We have grown our hair long for six years. Loree at Aspin Hair & Nail Company has helped me keep my hair health. Loree has been my hair designer since I was very little. She is also the one that cut my hair.”

Haleigh reported that she wants her article news about the donated hair to Locks of Love to be published in the Ramona Sentinel for others to see, so they may get the idea to grow their hair for Locks of Love.

Starr Kramer, 11 year old, a veteran. She donated 18 inches of her blond tresses to Locks of Love and sponsored by Fringe beauty salon in downtown Decatur. Rhonda Kramer, her mother said she also donated about the same amount of hair at age of 7.

Last year, Kaitlin Powell donated hair about 13½ inches. They weren’t alone as more than a dozen participated in donation to help others.

Locks of Love, a non-profit organization provides hairpieces to help children under 18 who are suffering from long term hair loss due to medical reasons.

Motorcyclist Patty Costley was also one of the donors of hair to Locks of Love, she’d done so many years ago. Costley said “Everybody says it’s healthy hair.” Costley as stylist Randi Hickman measured how much shorter her hair would be with 10 less inches.

Locks of Love, donation guidelines accepts hair from 6 to 10 inches in length which isn’t used to create the free hairpieces to help reduce costs. The 10 inches donations are used in creating hairpieces for children who has hair loss medical conditions.
